The Coronavirus And Jesus
The coronavirus crisis did not happen by chance. The Bible tells us that God sends disasters to make people turn away from their self-centredness and towards Him: “If I send pestilence on My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7, 13-14).
How can you turn towards God? There is only one way: you must turn to Jesus, who said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14, 6). The truth is not some intellectual concept, but a Person: “our God and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1, 1). “He is the image of the invisible God … For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together” (Colossians 1, 15-17). Jesus is God who came to earth to save you.
Your situation is that you have sinned against God, for everyone is a sinner: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3, 23). Only Jesus can save you from eternal death because of your sins. This is because He was put to death on a cross “for our sins, … was buried, and … was raised on the third day” (1 Corinthians 15, 3-4). No one else ever rose physically from the dead. No one else ever died for you. Only God can do that.
What must you do to be saved from your sins?: “Believe in the Lord Jesus” (Acts 16, 31) – that He is God your Saviour who died for you and rose from the dead to save you. And repent of your sins, because “unless you repent you will perish” (Luke 13,3). Your whole will must be turned towards Jesus.
“Everyone who believes in Him [Jesus] will receive forgiveness of sins” (Acts 10, 43), but if you do not put your faith in Him, your sins will not be forgiven. Without faith in Him, you will die in those sins: “The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is God’s power to those who are being saved” (1 Corinthians 1,18). God’s power saves you when you believe and trust in Jesus Christ, and become His follower.
The coronavirus crisis has shown you how fragile life is. Tomorrow you may be dead. Your time is very short. Turn to Jesus now, and be saved.
